Coding Specialist PPS
Responsibilities Code, bill, and abstract inpatient Hospitalist, Trauma, NICU, PICU &others department records. All activities must be accomplished in accordance with national and facility approved coding guidelines and rules and ambulatory payment methodologies. Activities must also be performed with adherence to Federal Compliance Regulations and Medical Necessity Guidelines. Average coding accuracy must be consistently maintained at 95% or better. Average number of records coded per week must meet minimum established quantitative standards. Contacts physicians, nurse practitioner and other health care professionals to clarify difficult medical record documentation to insure accurate code assignment. Daily run Census report, Matching reports & Billing Cards. Complete statistical forms and tracking logs. Performs additional duties as assigned to improve financial performance of the system.
H.S. graduate plus 1-2 years of formal training or education in ICD-9-CM coding, medical terminology and anatomy & physiology. Individual will be required to produce transcripts of successful completion. RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P certification preferred. Three to four years of actual coding experience of patient records from a physician's office, hospital, or diagnostic center preferred. An additional one year of coding experience in an appropriate medical setting may be substituted for one year of the requried education or CCS or CCP may be substituted for the required education.

Pay Range (Hourly) 16.60 - 25.73
