Physician Assistant

Responsibilities

Assists with admission work-ups and/or consults to facilitate care. Initiates, monitors, alters and orders treatments including but not limited to device placement, physical and occupational therapy, home health referral, and discharge planning. Re-evaluates the patient throughout the hospitalization and modifies plan of care as needed in collaboration with clinical staff. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age and development of the patient. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as indicated for diagnosis and management of problems. Completes wound assessments, initiates basic skin care orders. Order laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies that will assist with the medical management; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipates effects of treatments, and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient. Follows clinical practice protocols and guidelines agreed upon by supervising physician as stated by Collaborative Practice Agreement (CPA).

Graduate from Board of Nursing approved Nurse Practitioner Program or Physician Assistant Program required. Current NC RN Licensure and NC Nurse Practioner or Physician Assistant licensure required; National Board Certification as a NP/PA required. Two to three years experience in a health care setting. May substitute NP/PA with no previous experience as NP/PA if applicant has clinical experience in an acute care setting with direct patient care for a minimum of two years.
